Development and history of Japanese Society of Thoracic Radiology
The Japanese Society of Thoracic Radiology (JSTR) was established in 1987 with the objective of advancing education and research in the field of thoracic radiology, which encompasses both diagnostic imaging and interventional radiology (IVR). In the autumn of the same year, the first annual meeting was held in Okayama during the Autumn Assembly of the Japan Radiological Society (JRS).
Since the first meeting, the JSTR Annual Meeting has been held in conjunction with the JRS Autumn Meeting. The event comprises over 50 case presentations on radiology-pathology correlations and lectures delivered by invited speakers. These meetings have had a considerable impact on the advancement of chest radiology, facilitating a deeper understanding of thoracic disease imaging through discussions on radiologic-pathologic correlations and clinical pathological contexts.
The Society currently has over 400 members, 9 honorary members, and approximately 20 directors, and is making a substantial contribution to the development of thoracic radiology in Japan and globally.
